Analyze a short story Golden Bird by Brothers Grimm
Tells the story of a king who has a beautiful garden with three golden apple trees. However, the apple disappeared every night until the king ordered the gardener to guard it the whole night. The gardener also arranged for his children to look after the apples. Until the last child caught the perpetrator of the disappearance of the golden apple, a golden bird. The bird dropped a golden feather. The gardener's son gave it to the king but the king wanted the bird, so one by one the gardener's children started looking for the golden bird.
PLOT
From my analysis, this story belongs to a progressive plot because the author explains the story chronologically from beginning to end.
Stage Plot
1. 1. Exposition
At the beginning of the story begins with the introduction of the king who has a beautiful garden with three golden apple trees which are always guarded and counted when they began to grow ripe.
2. 2. Inciting Moment
There is a rather vague conflict here. Where the golden apples of the king always disappear every night. Until the king asked the gardener to look after the apples and the gardener assigned his children one by one until the culprit was found, a golden bird that died by a feather.
3. 3. Rising Action
This is where the conflict starts to become clearer. It started with the king who wanted the golden bird intact and the gardener's first son looked for it first on the way, he met a fox and the fox gave advice but was ignored by the first child and he did not return. Then the second child began to look for the golden bird and had the same fate as his brother. And finally, the third child looked for the golden bird and again met the fox that his brothers met, he followed the fox's advice. The next morning the fox came again and gave the advice to get the golden bird. However, the third child did not follow what the fox said this time.
4. 4. Climax
For not following the fox's orders, the third child was finally captured by the king and given a death sentence, but he could be free if he brought a golden horse to the king. The fox again gave him advice but again he disobeyed and was again arrested and sentenced to death. However, it was again agreed that he could live if he brought a beautiful princess, birds, and horses for the king. The fox still helped him but he always ignored it, namely, the fox asked that he not redeem anyone but he redeemed his two brothers. Finally, he could give the king what he wanted with his two brothers. After some time after that, the third child fell to the bottom of the river where the water was almost dry and the cliff was very steep, and the fox continued to help the third child and told him that his two brothers wanted to kill him.
5. 5. Falling Action
Finally, the third son disguised himself as a poor man and secretly came to the king to tell the deception of his two brothers until they were punished and arrested, and he also asked the king to give back the daughter to him.
6. DenouementOne day he went for a walk in the forest and again met the fox. The fox begged in tears for the third child to kill him, chopping off his head and legs. Finally, he did and in an instant, it turned out that the fox was the sister of the long-lost princess.
CONFLICT
In this story there are only 2 types of conflict, the first is a physical conflict between the third child and the fox. As well as social conflicts between the third child and his two brothers, as well as the king.
